Belfast Minimills manufactures a series of machines necessary for the processing of fibres. Modular in design, a Belfast Minimill can be configured for your required production and range of products.
Draw Frame
Washer
The Belfast Mini Mill wash System will wash up to 9 pounds of fibre in a single operation. Up to three types and or colours of fiber can be cleaned at the same time. User friendly controls allow for multiple cycle choices and water levels to maximize its performance. With variable wash action and centrifuge the BMM Wash System is almost a necessity when processing natural fiber.
Picker
The Belfast Mini Mills Picker/Opener teases out entanglements and opens the fiber to give consistency in further processing. Blending of fiber types and colours can easliy be accomplished at this stage giving a complete homogeneous blend. The fiber is thrown into a collection room where conditioning oils are applied.
Fibre Separator
The BMML Fibre Separator was developed specifically for dual coat fibres. We quickly discovered that most fibres benefit from being processed through either the large fibre separator (Dual coats) or the small fibre separator(single coat).
In both cases, the separator removes all types of contamination and opens fibre for further processing.
Carder
The B.M.M. Carder is the heart of a fiber mill. It separates randomly placed fibers from each other and individually aligns these fibers, presenting them in the form of a continuous web at the output end. This web is turned into batts which are used in quilts and felt making. Alternatively, the web can be consolidated into rovings which are further processed into yarns. The Carder incorporates a vacuum system to aid in the removal of dust and other contamination. Exotic blending of colours and types can be created at this stage.The B.M.M. Bump Winder is an optional attachment to the Large Carder. It automatically places the carded roving into a storage package called a ‘bump’. The bump is great method to store and/or ship the rovings. With the addition of the BBM Rug Yarn Maker you can also make designer, core wrapped yarns at the carding stage.
Draw Frame
The function of the B.M.M. Draw Frame is to take rovings from the Carder and create a roving, absolutly consistent in size over its entire length. It also further alligns the fibers to parallel, and makes a stronger roving for ease of processing or packaging. You can make the roving bigger or smaller at this stage. The draw frame blends multiple rovings into one fiber stream. Blending at this stage can create very unique end products.
